Virginia Natural Gas- Peaking Ops
Peaking Ops is essentially used for the coldest days of the year, when the most natural gas is used on the VNG system. As of now VNG has 2 compressor stations, acting as a turbo. sucking in natural gas from the transmission line and pushing the gas out a higher pressure further down the pipeline. In the past, they used 2 propane-air peak shaving plants. Mixing propane and air to get the same BTU as natural gas. Now, the 2 propane plants are slated for decommissioning/retirement and a new compressor station is starting construction for Chesapeake. ***NOTE, only Peaking Operations use this system. ALL other VNG departments and operations use cell phones and MDT's. This system is also connected to 4 other LNG plants under the Southern Company Gas tree, Chattanooga LNG in Chattanooga, Tennessee; Macon LNG in Macon, Georgia; Cherokee LNG in Cherokee, Georgia; and Riverdale LNG in Riverdale,Georgia.
